Tbh, Aria is very lucky to have made friends with the Manga Club. We got to find out about her relationship related to her estranged father and family.

One thing I do like about this anime is that they seems to focus on every main character to some degree, and do so beyond just the cosplay parts. What looked like a very happy episode got an ominous end. Aria deserves better imo.

Wow starting things off with some very heavy backstory. It is... so awful to hear about what happened to her father.
But just from that before-opening scene, that is devastating.

So nice to see Aria making new friends and getting excited about Cosplay although that scene at the end was just heartbreaking.

Mikari being so blissfully unaware of how doomed her chances are is so tragically comical I kinda want her to win by some freak accident just for the meme, and I've been rooting for Ririsa since the start lmao

As if Aria's backstory and motivation for cosplaying at the start wasn't emotional enough, that cliffhanger was heavy. You could even say she's an Aria of Sorrow.

Finally get to see Mikari again, hopefully she will shown more consistently although she now has to share screentime with 2 additional girls. Speaking of additional girls, Aria's backstory is pretty sad, especially concerning her father, however, maybe the mother meant that Aria's father was dead metamorphically speaking (like he's dead to the mom but not literally).

"Girl, No,"

"Seriously, what makes his so special"

I suspect the "he is dead" is not the he that are implying.

Ever since the first cosplay event each episode has gotten so much better I never expected an anime about cosplay to have so many emotional moments. I also didn't expect so much character development for this series. Has me excited for future arcs for Mikari and Okumura

This anime does well to highlight each character, do it well and makes everyone likeable. The motivation to cosplay for each of them is different but still good on its own. The emotional moments, drama and the relationship of them all are very well written.

Mikari put in lots effort off screen, her dedication to Okamura is unreal. Be it 10,000 yen chocolate or cosplay. I doubt it will pay off. He is more interested in her cosplay just cause its anime girls. Ririsa appreciates it & her more than him tbh.
"I am doing it for someone special"
"You are doing it for me"
"Girl No"

It was great to see 4(+1) of them work together to make those costumes. Aria also after hardwork finally managed to make it by herself. Her backstory is really sad. Now after doing all this to find her dad goes to waste it will be so tragic.

Man Aria getting into cosplay to find her dad is a really touching story. Everything that happened with her dad is just unfortunate, he obviously shouldn’t have walked out on the family but he clearly had mental health problems and all the stress of being a “failed” mangaka, a dad, husband etc it just got to him. I can really relate to her saying mean things to her dad and wanting to take them back too.

Mikarin finally back! Been waiting on her to cosplay again for like two months now lol. Aria and Nonoa finding out she has a thing for Okumura was too funny. It’s wild that she changed the whole culture of models cosplaying just so she can casually do cosplay shoots with Okumura lmao

Aria ate that cosplay up but I’m really worried about that ending scene, I hope some context is missing and her dad isn’t actually dead. That would be horrible having to leave things how they ended when she was a kid+ it’ll be like what was all the point of cosplaying this time 😭

Do you mean because of the bad translation in the first 2 cases that the "he died years ago" translation is also misleading?

I mean since they did not specifically identify the "He", just putting it into a conversation next to reference to family and in-laws, that they may be trying to misdirect the audience as to who has died in order to create drama.

@IhnalakoKaina I didn't specifically notice any bad translations tbh, could you maybe give me some examples besides the years ago part? Because I surely hope that I wasn't oblivious to the subs on that extent.

Aria's past was intense. I'm honestly surprised she doesn't hate her father - at that age, it would have been easy to develop serious trauma, but she handled it pretty well over time, even to the point of wanting to reconnect with him. Maybe the news of his death is just a misunderstanding - if not, that would be a huge plot twist.

I also felt a little sorry for Aria's father. As an artist, hearing that your work is "boring" and doesn't connect with people has to hurt. But I don't think it was as bad as he thought - if both his daughter and even Okumura found it interesting, there must be something good in it. They're just different perspectives. It's a shame he focused so much on negative opinions, though I understand - if even his own editor called it boring, anyone would be put off.

Damn sad backstory for Aria, it was hard to think of a good reason for someone wanting to cosplay manga characters that’s not really into the medium itself, finding her dad is a very valid reason lol, the fact things ended that way between them too, tough shit man, and then the end of the episode hinting that it may already be too late because he passed, if that’s true then damn Aria is going through it, hopefully the group cosplay at Summer Comiket will be a healing journey or something if things don’t work out.

And speaking of the group cosplay, it’s awesome that all the main girls are finally coming together to cosplay, even Mikari who we’ve been starved of until now, Aria being a fan of hers makes sense but Nonoa was just in confusion lol. I forgot how down bad Mikari is for Okumura too, she’s planning to be Lilliel for him on Valentine’s Day huh, if that happens she may just win after all lol. And I really enjoyed the journey of the girls making their costumes and just hanging out, Okumura had to wait in the hallway a lot but it looked like a fun time, love to see the girls getting closer over cosplay. Aria’s situation is rough but I’m looking forward to seeing how their group cosplay turns out.

@Narizor Dear, that would be fine if 1 or 2 people like your work as a hobby. But being professional and working for your job is a different story. His wife was carrying every bills of their house. He got backlash from readers who kept saying that his work was just a plagiarism. His new works were rejected by editors. Ofc he would be stress af when looking at his first work ruining literally his whole business.

Aria's story is so touching and so sad.
I was hoping she would get to reunite with her dad, but oh well that ending...

It was nice to see Mikari is back.
The family restaurant scene was hilarious, and so were the little moments with the MC zooming out of the room when the girls start changing haha.

Overall, a really good episode.

Only thing I have to say about this one is: that was a bad OP placement.

Sad back story for Aria. Poor father, it's understandable how his life was ruined when he couldn't cut as a mangaka. Hard to live a full life when your dream is smashed. He did marry a knock out and have a very sweet daughter though. Hell of a cliffhanger there at the end though...Is he really dead?

Cute that the girls seem to have hooked up as friends, even Mikari who has her own agenda.

Aria looks really good in her costume. But once again I'm reminded that people told me this was a lewder version of Dressup Darling... but instead it's way tamer. This could be a really good ecchi if it had more... animation.

Quite a lot of stuff for Aria and that ending too. Otherwise Mikarin continues to be amusing. She's changing her approach for chocos this time but something feels off, wonder what could it be. Was hilarious watching her and Nonopi stare at Lilysa and Aria eating.

Feel basd for Aria father.

Just wait until Aria found out about Nagomi have a crush on our boy too, can't wait to hear her reaction about it lol

And people thought this was just a dumb anime that only relies on fanservice, the true heart of this series is the cosplay drama and the exploration of the otaku culture. Mainstream acceptance of otaku culture comes from the barrel of the popular, and its nice seeing Mikari popularize cosplay in such a normal way. We even got some nice anime exclusive photos. But man is that a heavy cliffhanger.

Damn, that's a twist and a half in the end there. I understand why the mother would keep that to little Aria-chan but you've to let her know sometime so that she doesn't learn about it like how she did here...

Ain't going to be rosy and merry in the coming Comiket for the quartet once this info spreads, I imagine.

Hearing him pronounced 'dead' was unsurprising to me,in most anime having a parent be present and relevant to the story is kinda rare
Bigger question is how Aria will react, will they still be ready for the summer event?

I really like how this gets into the nitty gritty details of cosplay making.
Aria's mom stopped dressing like a gyaru in the present. Her dad is dead? What a dark turn...
Was it shame? Guilt? Overwork? Maybe he changed his identity...

The story of the obscure Valkyrie Battle series is a lot more than just a family affair for Aria, it being the catalyst to break her family is quite the tragedy that Aria is trying to pursue her missing father for 10 years now. And truly, there's nothing more to teach Aria than to perfect Lilel's group, and I thought that Mikari was to be forgotten until the popular model turned around to be their 4th member of the group...if only Okumura accepts, which he willingly obliges. Too bad that Mikari's love has always been one-sided, until she decides to act.

The cosplay act giving Aria more credibility as a friend, and Okumura just being there even at their sew-and-cut moments becomes the norm, as Nonoa checks her friendship bucket list and the girls having dinner together showing not just how much disparity they have for calories, but how far they've come since then, aiming to cosplay at Summer Comiket together. It's truly the bliss of the manga club coming together for a convention they've been aiming since the very beginning.

Aria hearing the bombshell that her father has been dead for years, is he truly dead, or does this mean something else?

i wonder why many people call mikari as "best girl", for some reason i can't see her like that. she became a cosplayer just to get close to okumura. from my point of view she looks like a nosy girl when it comes to okumura. moreover no matter who or how many girls are close to okumura it has nothing to do with mikari. sorry this is just my personal opinion and i hope noa can appear more often

It's really sad that Aria wants to do cosplay for her father to notice her since he disappeared for a decade :( but that ending is worrying if the mother says that he's dead, it's either that or he moved and he's living his life in Thailand or whatever and he doesn't care at all
